he focus is to meet the rising needs of passengers, because the capacity of the terminal is expected to double from the current 2,6 million to over 5 million passengers a year. The terminal is a building of three floors and the hall of departures attracting the public with large, space-opening glass walls. The first stage of the work on the construction site started in December 2008 and should be ready in the summer of 2010. The yet to be started second stage is planned to be in use during winter 2012.
The construction company responsible for the project is ZIPP Bratislava Ltd., a member of the Austrian Strabag Group. At Peikko, the responsible team for the project was Peikko CEE s.r.o. and most products were made at the nearby Peikko's factory in Kralova nad Vahom, Slovakia. In the building site e.g. column shoes, anchor bolts, MODIX rebar couplers, PSB punching feinforcement, Deltabeams and special columns from Peikko have been used.
Peikko also produced some special structures for 13 meter long columns. Peikko's development centre in Bratislava was able to find a special solution together with the site's responsible structural engineer for certain column reinforcement problems - normal reinforcement was impossible in this case. The reinforcement of columns with the shape of closed boxes was used successfully as the special solution in this project.
